Im just glad the dog didn't die again

In my country, Wales, we have a similar story. Bedd Gelert, he was a hunting hound of a lord who lived in a castle. The lord and his wife had a little new born baby.

One night when the people weren't around and Bedd Gelert was asleep at the foot of the infant's cradle, a pack of wolves snuck in. Bedd Gelert courageously defended the baby bleeding all over the place and chased the wolves away.

It was then the people returned and the lord saw Bedd Gelert and his child's cot splattered with blood. In a fit of rage believing that Bedd had mauled his child, the lord had the dog executed. For only moment after killing the faithful hound to hear the cries of his child and to find it completely unharmed.

The lord then erected a memorial to his heroic dog which still supposedly stands today.
